Our future access at Smithpoint outer beach is in grave peril. If this little experiment by FEDERAL fish and wildlife at Smithpoint is a success, wildlife, areas can be implemented at any of our beaches 4X4 or walking, state county or local.
At Smithpoint an area has been leveled to allow the birds access from bay to ocean. This restricts any access to the inlet. Washovers, will occur here in the future putting the communities behind the barrier beaches in possible danger of flooding.
Why would a beach replenishment project take away sand and level the dunes? One answer a wildlife refuge is being built. Once this happens our access will FOREVER BE CUT OFF.
CALL ANYONE ,EVERYONE AND ASK FOR TRUTHFUL ANSWERS.
THESE ARE OUR BEACHES LET'S NOT LOSE THEM.
Suffolk County Parks Management has advised LIBBA that 4x4 access to Smith Point will remain closed and will not open before their next meeting on May 11th. The string fencing for the bird nesting areas has been completed and we have been given no explanation as to why it's not open at this time. With that said, it's time for everyone who uses this park to start making calls and sending e-mails asking why the beach is not open. We ask that you call the Parks Commissioner Greg Dawson: 631-854-4949 and/or e-mail: email@example.com and ask for a reason for the continued beach closure. We would also suggest that Suffolk residents contact their County Legislator and ask them the same question.
Here’s the link for the County Legislators: http://legis.suffolkcountyny.gov/legislators.html.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO ANYONE WHO HAS AN INTEREST IN GETTING THE PARK OPEN. THANKS.
